ConfettiSystem

Needless to say, we at Brinkworth like a bit of bling. So we're delighted to stumble across the work of design agency ConfettiSystem. Artist/designer duo Nicholas Anderson and Julie Ho combine tissue paper, card and silk applied across and a variety of applications including installations, jewellery set designs and interactive objects - all reminiscent of giant piƱata's (which the also make). Beautifully simple. Visually stunning. Check out their tumblr And their site.

Ron Hickman - Designer - d2011. Creator of the Workmate and Lotus Elan

The prolific designer and inventor Ron Hickman, who has died aged 78 after a long illness, made his fortune from an idea for a simple but multifunctional bench with a gap down the middle to grip wood. The Workmate enabled DIY enthusiasts to saw through pieces of timber without using the edges of chairs and tables for support. The idea had come to him in 1961 when he accidentally sawed through the leg of an expensive Swedish chair while making a wardrobe. Nearly 70m Workmates have been sold since Black & Decker put Hickman's design into mass production in 1973.

Alexander Calder Beemer......

The BMW Art Car was conceived in 1975, the year that French auctioneer and racecar driver Herve Poulain first entered 24 Hours of Le Mans. Searching for a link between art and motorsport, Poulain asked his friend, noted artist Alexander Calder, to commission a rolling canvas on the BMW 3.0 CSL that he would race. In the years that followed, this unique combination of motorsport and BMW design fascinated the famous artists of our time. Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol have all turned BMW racing cars into Art Cars.
